Maddox chose a Monster Truck themed party for his 4th birthday this year. At first, I was a little hesitant. What kind of decorations could I do with that? But after a little scouring on the internet and some great inspirations from Pinterest, we pulled off a monster of a party!
I started by ordering these invitations from PartyPrintsPlus on Etsy. They are meant to look like Monster Jam tickets - super cute!
I checked at Party City for monster truck supplies, but they didn't have any, so I ended up ordering some from here. I also ordered checkered flag banners, because what monster truck party would be complete without checkered flags?
From the plates, I pulled the color scheme: black, white, red, yellow and lime green. I went back to Party City and loaded up on colored bowls, utensils, balloons, and table cloths. Hotwheels Monster Jam trucks served as party favors for the kids and doubled as centerpieces for the table:
The food didn't really have a monster truck theme except for a few key pieces I found on Pinterest, such as "Nuts & Bolts" (Chex Mix), "Mud Shots" (chocolate pudding with crushed Oreos), "Monster Fuel" (pineapple-lemonade punch), and "Keep on Crushin'" Crush orange pop. I used my Cricut diecut machine and the Boys Will Be Boys cartridge to cut out little monster trucks and tent cards for the food. I used scrapbook paper to make liners in clear plastic cups for the nuts & bolts. This was by far the hit of the party. They were the perfect size for the kids to grab a cup and snack on. The adults loved them too!
Other decorations included larger monster trucks my mom cut out on her large Cricut with the kids' names stamped on them. They then got to take them home with them. I used some of the leftover checkered flag banner to hang inside and we finished off the island with the many, many Monster Jam pennants Maddox got with all his Hot Wheels trucks. I also made a "Maddox is 4" banner to hang above the door.
The final masterpiece was the cake. I got my inspiration from this Pinterest pin, and we tweaked it just a little to make it work for us. I made a chocolate cake for the bottom and frosted it with chocolate frosting. Then I made a second, yellow cake that we cut the ramps out of. We sprinkled crushed graham crackers for a track, lined in yellow icing. We lined the whole cake with mini chocolate donuts which Scott artfully crafted tiny icing treads onto. A little green icing added the look of grass, and we topped the cake with toy cars and monster trucks.
And a birthday wouldn't be complete with a birthday boy. It was has become a recent tradition, I ordered a personalized shirt for Maddox's birthday from PricelessKids on Etsy.
I'll be back with more pictures of the birthday boy and his guests in a future post!
